In Islamabad, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has apprehended V-logger Asad Toro on accusations of launching a “malicious campaign” against the Supreme Court. Asad allegedly criticized the Supreme Court’s decision to revoke the PTI’s electoral symbol ‘bat’ ahead of the general elections.
Asad’s attorney, Iman Zainab Mazari, has verified Asad’s arrest. Previously, Mazari expressed dismay over the treatment of journalists in the country, emphasizing the importance of constitutional courts in safeguarding fundamental rights.
Mazari’s statements came when Asad was summoned by the FIA, but his lawyer was denied access to the office, with the doors locked. Despite an order from the Islamabad High Court instructing the FIA not to harass the journalist, Asad was taken to the FIA premises without legal representation.
Mazari had earlier mentioned that Asad had been held in the FIA cell for several hours. Notably, Chief Justice Amir Farooq of the Islamabad High Court heard Asad’s plea against the FIA notice accusing him of running a propaganda campaign against the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
The High Court directed that Asad should not be subjected to harassment and instructed the FIA to conduct its inquiry without intimidation.
