In Peshawar today, Ali Amin Gandapur was elected as the Chief Minister during the session of the Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
Speaker Babar Saleem Swati chaired the session where members and Tehreek-e-Insaaf workers voiced their support through slogans, despite the speaker’s repeated calls for silence.
Although the KP Assembly session commenced later than scheduled with fewer members present, it formally began after the recitation of the Holy Quran. Speaker Swati directed supporters of Chief Minister candidate Ali Amin Gandapur to Lobby No. 1 and those backing Dr. Ibadullah to Lobby 2. Amidst fervent slogans in favor of Gandapur, Tehreek-e-Insaf activists continuously hailed the founding chairman, prompting repeated calls via bells to gather Assembly members back to the House.
Ultimately, Ali Amin Gandapur secured 90 votes, clinching the Chief Minister position, while Dr. Ibadullah, the opposition’s nominee, managed only 16 votes. Notably, Ali Amin Gandapur now holds the distinction of being the 20th Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since Pakistan’s inception.
