Scrutiny of the nomination papers for the joint presidential candidate of the coalition parties, Asif Ali Zardari, and Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the presidential nominee of the Sunni Etihad Council, has concluded in Islamabad.
The Chief Election Commissioner conducted the scrutiny of Asif Zardari’s and Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s nomination papers.
The nomination papers of Asif Zardari were approved by the Chief Election Commissioner. However, objections were raised by another presidential candidate, Asghar Ali Mubarak, against Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s nomination papers. The Chief Election Commissioner reserved the decision regarding the approval of Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s nomination papers.
Concerns were raised in objections against Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s nomination papers, citing his alleged departure from the Constitution of Pakistan through statements made against the establishment and institutions on the floor of the assembly. Therefore, it was argued that his nomination papers should be rejected.
Farooq Naik stated that no objections were raised against Asif Zardari’s nomination papers and expressed confidence that Zardari would be elected president for the second time.
