
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed for an acceleration in the privatization process of various institutions and has called for a comprehensive list of institutions involved in privatization along with a progress report.
A high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister was convened at the Prime Minister House, attended by notable officials including Senator Ishaq Dar, Mossadegh Malik, Shiza Fatima, Rumina Khurshid Alam, and others.
Discussions revolved around the progress, challenges, and obstacles encountered in the privatization endeavors of entities such as PIA, House Building Finance Corporation, and power plants. Delays attributed to legal constraints were highlighted, prompting the Prime Minister to emphasize the effectiveness of the government’s legal team and to urge prompt measures from the Ministry of Law. Notably, a deadline of March 5 for bids concerning airport outsourcing was mentioned. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the importance of expediting the privatization process to bolster the economy and alleviate burdens on the populace, urging swift resolution of impediments.
He mandated a detailed report on all privatization-related institutions and tasks, emphasizing the need for a proactive approach in addressing pending issues. Additionally, the Prime Minister proposed the formation of a review committee regarding the transfer of power companies to provinces, underlining the responsibility of the Privatization Commission and Ministry of Privatization in navigating the process.
In his address, he underscored the significance of collective efforts in salvaging the nation from losses incurred by underperforming institutions, rallying all stakeholders to contribute sincerely to the nation’s welfare.
