In Lahore, the Punjab Assembly witnessed the swearing-in of its members, with notable disruptions from the opposition.
Despite a delayed start, Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan presided over the session. Opposition member Rana Aftab initially raised concerns about quorum but was assured by the Speaker.
As the session progressed, newly elected members were called to take their oaths, prompting objections and protests from the opposition. Rana Aftab contested the allocation of seats, claiming they belonged to their party due to recent electoral victories. However, Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan insisted on proceeding as per constitutional and legal protocols, leading to verbal exchanges between him and Rana Aftab.
Amidst the opposition’s protests, newly elected members began taking their oaths. Despite the chaos and slogans raised against the ruling party, the oath-taking continued. The Speaker urged both opposition and government members to maintain decorum.
During the oath-taking, opposition members surrounded the Speaker’s podium, continuing their protests. Meanwhile, the newly sworn-in members signed necessary documents. Notably, photos of the founder chairman of Tehreek-e-Insaaf were displayed in the House by the Sunni Ittehad Council.
Several women and minority members took their oaths during the session, including Sadia Muzaffar, Fiza Maimuna, and Tariq Masih. Despite the opposition’s persistent objections, the swearing-in process proceeded amidst the clamor in the House.
