In Karachi, the resumption of development projects previously halted during the caretaker government’s tenure has begun. The Interior Department has allocated Rs. 1,030,149,000 for the renovation of 15 jails.
The Home Department has prepared a proposal for the Planning and Development Department’s approval. Construction projects are planned for Central Jails in Sukkur, Khairpur, and Larkana, along with Ghotki District Jail. Additionally, repairs are slated for Shikarpur and Jacobabad District Jails, as well as Women’s Jail in Larkana and Sukkur.
An administrative block will be erected in Central Jail Karachi, while infrastructure improvements such as internal roads, pathways, and drainage systems are planned for Central Jail Karachi, Mirpur Khas Central Jail, Nowshahru Feroze District Jail, and Nawabshah District Jail. Moreover, a boundary wall exceeding 10 feet will be built between Jacobabad District Jail and Sanghar District Jail.
Funds will be released by the Finance Department upon approval from the Planning and Development Department. It’s worth noting that during the announcement of general elections, the Sindh caretaker government had halted work on these 15 prison projects.
