The Federal Cabinet has given its approval for the establishment of an inquiry commission, led by retired Justice Tasadeq Hussain Jilani, to investigate allegations of undue pressure from the ISI on six judges of the Islamabad High Court. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, which took place via Zoom with most ministers participating remotely.
During the session, the cabinet endorsed the formation of the commission to probe the allegations outlined in a letter regarding ISI pressure. Justice Nasir Mulk and Justice Tasadeq Jilani were considered for leading the commission, with Justice Tasadeq Hussain Jilani ultimately being selected. Prime Minister Nazir Tarar approached Justice Tasadeq Jilani, who accepted the role. The commission is expected to deliver its report within sixty days, with further action to be taken if the allegations are substantiated. The Cabinet Division will provide necessary assistance to the commission.
Justice Tasadeq Hussain Jilani, upon accepting the responsibility, expressed readiness to initiate proceedings following Eid, acknowledging the sensitivity of the matter. When questioned about the nature of the judicial proceedings, he refrained from divulging details, citing the sensitive nature of the issue. He also confirmed that the commission’s proceedings will take place in Islamabad and will include summoning the six judges who made the allegations against the ISI.
