Washington: Once again, the United States has indicated its intention to impose sanctions on Pakistan following its recent agreements with Iran.
According to reports from a foreign news agency, Vedant Patel, the Deputy Spokesperson for the US State Department, stated in a press briefing that business deals with Iran could potentially lead to sanctions if progress continues with the new Pakistan-Iran agreements.
Patel emphasized the need for those involved in these agreements to be mindful of the possibility of facing sanctions.
Pakistan regards its ties with Iran as integral to its foreign policy objectives. Patel reiterated that sanctions are being imposed on suppliers to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Notably, Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the US State Department, advised yesterday that parties considering trade agreements with Iran should be cognizant of the potential risk of sanctions. He clarified that while the US is not currently contemplating sanctions, it remains one of Pakistan’s primary export markets.
