Geneva: Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations, expressed deep concern regarding potential Israeli military actions in Rafah, highlighting the grave humanitarian consequences such attacks could entail.
He urged the United States to intervene and prevent Israel from initiating any assault on Rafah, emphasizing the need for a firm stance.
Guterres also called upon the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to remain steadfast in providing essential aid in Gaza, underscoring the agency’s commitment to neutrality. Furthermore, he appealed to all donor nations to resume their support for UNRWA.
Negotiations for a ceasefire and discussions on prisoner exchanges are ongoing. It is worth noting that since October 7, over 34,000 Palestinians have lost their lives and more than 77,000 have been injured in Gaza, with many still believed to be trapped under the rubble of demolished buildings.
