Lahore: The Kisan Ittihad has declared a nationwide protest starting from May 10th. Khalid Hussain Khokhar, the Chairman of Kisan Ittehad, stated that the protest will commence from Multan after Friday prayers on May 10th, featuring a symbolic funeral for agriculture.
During an interview with a private TV channel, Khokhar emphasized that farmers have incurred losses amounting to 400 billion rupees due to the wheat scandal, with around 6 crore farmers suffering from corruption. He highlighted the squandering of foreign exchange as well.
Furthermore, Chairman Khalid Hussain Baath of Kisan Etihad penned a letter to the Prime Minister, underscoring the current challenges faced by farmers. The letter warned that failure to purchase farmers’ wheat could hinder the cultivation of cotton and other crops.
In solidarity with the farmers’ demands, Jamaat-e-Islami organized protest camps in over 15 locations across Punjab and Sindh. These camps and demonstrations took place in cities including Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Gujarat, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, and Rawalpindi in Punjab, while in Sindh, protests were staged in districts such as Dhar, Ghotki, and Mirpur Khas.
