Rawalpindi: Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has called for the formation of a judicial commission by May 9 or for immediate punishment.
In a media conversation, Sheikh Rasheed expressed frustration over his ongoing legal battles, which have lasted for two years. He claimed that authorities raid their homes, abduct children, seize valuables, and subject them to abuse. He criticized the state of justice in the country, stating that it has become a mockery. “After Allah, only the judiciary is left. Either form a judicial commission by May 9 or give us immediate sentences,” he urged.
Sheikh Rasheed emphasized that they would prefer being punished if found guilty. He asserted that there is no evidence against them and questioned whether Imran Khan would join him in the next court appearance. He likened the current government to a malfunctioning engine, saying, “The pistons are sitting, the plugs are clogged with dirt, and the engine is smoking. People will rise like Kashmiris.”
Previously, Sheikh Rasheed had filed petitions for acquittal due to lack of evidence in all cases related to May 9. The court accepted his petitions for hearing, issued a police notice, and adjourned the hearing until May 29. All future proceedings will be held in Adiala Jail.
