The Election Commission in Peshawar has opted out of contesting cases involving Returning Officers (ROs) accused of rigging during the February 8 elections.
In a session at the Election Tribunal of the Peshawar High Court, a petition challenging the election results in Karam district was heard.
The Election Commission informed the court that ROs had failed to pursue cases regarding alleged rigging during the February 8 elections.
The Commission’s counsel stated they were instructed not to engage in disputes and could only offer support to the court, asserting that each RO must handle their own case.
Justice Waqar Ahmed questioned the Election Commission’s counsel, noting that ROs were not considered officers of the Election Commission.
The petitioner’s counsel clarified that complaints were directed solely towards the ROs and District Returning Officers (DROs), not the Election Commission itself. The court adjourned the hearing, requesting a written response within seven days.
