Islamabad: Tehreek-e-Insaf has announced its intention to bring the issue of the FIA notice regarding the Hamud-ur-Rehman Commission report to Parliament and to challenge it in court.
The FIA took notice of a video posted on the founder chairman of Tehreek-e-Insaf’s X account, which was based on the contents of the Hamud-ur-Rehman Commission report.
PTI Central Secretary General Umar Ayub Khan has requested a copy of the Hamud-ur-Rehman Commission report from the FIA. Umar Ayub Khan, through his legal representative Dr. Babar Awan, has sent a written response to the FIA notice.
In their response, Umar Ayub’s lawyers stated that the FIA issued a defamatory notice to their client, Umar Ayub Khan, asking vague, ambiguous, and illegal questions. The notice pertains to the events surrounding the fall of Dhaka, for which the Government of Pakistan established a commission.
The written response highlights that this commission submitted an interim report to the state in 1972 and a full report in 1974, which was neither rejected nor denied. The statements of General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi were recorded and included in the report. The Hamud-ur-Rehman Commission report is available in the Cabinet Division.
Umar Ayub’s response asserts that the FIA is neither a department of historians nor an institution above the Supreme Court or the High Courts. The sole purpose of this FIA notice is to target the country’s most popular political leader, Khan, and his party’s Secretary General, Umar Ayub, for revenge. Umar Ayub has demanded that the FIA provide a copy of the Hamud-ur-Rehman Commission report to prepare an appropriate reply.
Additionally, Umar Ayub will exercise his right to raise the issue of the FIA’s propaganda against him through this notice in Parliament and will challenge it in court.
