Washington: The US State Department says that it has sought consular access from the Pakistani authorities in the Khadija Shah case.
US State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel said in a media briefing that Khadija Shah holds dual citizenship.
His case is being monitored and consular access has been sought from the Pakistani authorities.
We will continue direct talks with Pakistan in this regard. We always demand that foreign governments grant access to US citizens in custody.
The spokesperson added that the Pakistani authorities are expected to ensure a transparent and fair trial.
The spokesperson added that the allegations of US conspiracy are false. Only the people of Pakistan can decide about the politics of the country.
Longstanding cooperation with Pakistan is important. A prosperous and democratic Pakistan is in the interest of America.
