Ahsan Ramzan, the renowned World and Asian Snooker Champion, was apprehended by Lahore Police and placed into custody. The incident occurred during a raid at a club where Ahsan was practicing for the National Championship. The police took action against the club for staying open beyond the permitted hours.
During the arrest, Ahsan Ramzan’s belt was removed, and he was detained in Hawalat (holding cell) for about 15 minutes. Pictures of him wearing the belt outside the cell circulated widely on social media, sparking outrage.
Ahsan Ramzan recounted that the police verbally abused him during the arrest and treated him with disrespect. As someone who always aimed to bring honor to his country, he expressed deep disappointment at being humiliated in his own nation. He was eventually released after about 15 to 20 minutes when a friend came to assist him.
The World Champion has called for an inquiry into the matter by the Prime Minister and the Caretaker Chief Minister, seeking accountability for the incident.
Following the incident, CCPO Lahore, Bilal Siddique Kamiana, took notice of the ill-treatment of Ahsan Ramzan and demanded a report on the matter within 24 hours. He emphasized that appropriate action should be taken against the responsible officials involved in the incident.
