Bangladeshi opening batsman, Tamim Iqbal, has recently stepped down from his position as captain of the ODI team. His resignation comes amid concerns about a back problem that may potentially affect his participation in the upcoming Asia Cup, although there are hopes of him playing in the home series against New Zealand in September.
Interestingly, Tamim Iqbal had previously announced his retirement in July, but this decision was later influenced by a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid. Following the meeting, he reconsidered his retirement and agreed to lead the Bangladesh team until the World Cup.
According to local media sources, the recommendation and persuasion from Prime Minister Hasina Wajid played a crucial role in convincing Tamim to withdraw his retirement plans. However, the player maintains that he had already informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President, Nazmul Hasan, about his injury before stepping down as captain.
Tamim Iqbal expressed his commitment to giving his best performance for the national team whenever he gets the opportunity, and he is grateful for the understanding shown by the Prime Minister in his case.
