
Jamat-e-Islami organized a protest sit-in at Shahrah Faisal Water Board Head Office in Karachi, expressing their grievances against the ongoing Rights Karachi movement. The protest focused on the severe water shortage and crisis in the city, citing issues such as unfair water distribution, water theft, the tanker mafia, and the alleged government support for illegal hydrants.
The demonstration saw a significant turnout of citizens who have been suffering due to the incompetence and poor performance of the Sindh government and the water board. Protesters passionately voiced their demands through slogans and banners, urging an end to the mistreatment of Karachi and calling for the People’s Party not to engage in political revenge against the city’s residents.
Addressing the participants, Amir Jamat-e-Islami Karachi emphasized the importance of providing water to the people of Karachi promptly. They called for the completion of projects such as K4, S3, and Gujjar Nala to address the water scarcity. The protesters urged an end to government patronage of water thieves, tanker mafia, and illegal hydrants, and instead, they called for a fair water distribution system established through a meeting of stakeholders.
Hafiz Naeemur Rahman highlighted that the People’s Party had not significantly improved Karachi’s water supply in 15 years, mentioning the efforts of Abdul Sattar Afghani and Nimatullah Khan advocate to address water needs through projects like K-3. The incomplete K4 project, which was meant to provide 650 million gallons of water to Karachi, was also a point of concern for the demonstrators.
Protesters accused the Sindh government and the People’s Party of favoring the tanker mafia and mismanaging water distribution, particularly by diverting water from residential areas to industrial zones. They insisted that water should be allocated lawfully and fairly to both residential areas and industries.
Moreover, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman expressed strong opposition to the alleged water connection cuts made by the People’s Party in areas that did not vote for them, warning that such actions would face fierce resistance from the people.
In summary, the protest centered around demanding immediate action to address Karachi’s water crisis, completing essential water projects, and ensuring fair distribution while voicing opposition to political vengeance and water mismanagement.
