
Anti-corruption authorities in Lahore have brought forward a fresh case against Naib Tehsildar Najaf Hameed Khan, who happens to be the brother of former DGISI Faiz Hameed. The case revolves around the alleged misappropriation of land transfer fees. Upon conducting an investigation, evidence of irregularities has been discovered in the fees related to over 60 land transactions worth millions of rupees in 5 mouzas of Chakwal during Najaf Hameed’s tenure
Sources from the anti-corruption department revealed that an audit of the fees pertaining to all land transactions during Najaf Hameed’s service in 9 locations in Chakwal has been initiated. The investigation covers the period from June 2021 to February 2023, during which all land transactions will be thoroughly examined. The anti-corruption team has identified indications of fraudulent activities concerning excise duty, registry fees, and withholding tax deductions.
During the preliminary scrutiny by the anti-corruption authorities, it was discovered that more than 60 death fee challans were not properly documented. Further examination revealed discrepancies in death fees in Patwar Khanas of 5 locations. Subsequently, a comprehensive re-audit of all land transactions was initiated following the discovery of corruption in these 5 places.
As a result of the anti-corruption probe, five patwaris were found to have embezzled fees and were made to deposit Rs. 20 lakh between 18th and 21st July. The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are determined to uncover the full extent of any corruption and irregularities associated with land transfer fees during Najaf Hameed’s tenure.
