Title: Positive Developments in New Central Contract for Pakistani Cricketers
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is making significant strides in finalizing new central contract for national cricketers. The contracts, which expired on June 30, are undergoing substantial revisions, including increased remuneration and other player-friendly provisions.
Sources indicate that negotiations have progressed positively, with several players already agreeing to the new terms. The PCB is optimistic about securing agreements with more players soon, and an official announcement of the new contracts is anticipated next week.
Chairman of the Management Committee, Zaka Ashraf, has collaborated with the Cricket Technical Committee to refine the proposed contract terms. Valuable input from Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and other former cricket stars has also been considered, emphasizing the importance of looking after the players’ interests.
One key change in the proposed contracts is the allocation of players into categories. A, B, and C category cricketers are set to be allowed participation in up to three leagues per year. However, some star cricketers in the A category are seeking additional flexibility in this regard.
Notably, top players such as Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi, who excel in all formats of the game, could potentially receive a monthly retainership fee of Rs. 45 lakh each.
Comparatively, the previous contract offered 1.5 million for red-ball players and 9.5 million for white-ball players on a monthly basis. While demands for a share of ICC revenue or PCB contract contributions weren’t met, players remain hopeful for future positive decisions in this regard.
The proposal also includes an increase in test match fees for national cricketers. Progress has been made in individual sponsorship agreements, a development well-received by the players. Many cricketers are currently abroad for league commitments, and consultations with all parties have generated a sense of optimism among officials.
Noteworthy figures from the previous contract included a test match fee of 8 lakh 38 thousand 530, ODI international fee of 5 lakh 15 thousand 696, and a T20 international fee of 3 lakh 72 thousand 75 rupees. These standardized fees applied to players across all categories and were formulated through collaboration between Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and the PCB authorities.
