Renowned Indian music director AR Rahman has revealed that he opted not to relocate to Mumbai due to the presence of the underworld mafia during that period.
In an interview with an Indian newspaper, Rahman, a two-time Oscar winner and recipient of six national awards, shared that although celebrated director and film producer Subhash Ghai had suggested he learn Hindi and move to Mumbai, he decided against it given the prevalent influence of the underworld at the time.
Rahman went on to mention that despite an attractive offer from a producer to provide him with an opulent house in Mumbai, he turned down the proposition. After spending some time in London and purchasing a residence for extended work-related stays in the United States, Rahman and his family found the experience unsatisfying and ultimately returned to India.
The globally acclaimed musician, known for his exceptional compositions, currently resides in Chennai with his family. Among his notable tracks are “Chhian Chhian” and “Raesian,” which have contributed to his widespread recognition.
