The Secretary of the Election Commission has dispatched a letter to the Caretaker Prime Minister and Caretaker Chief Ministers of Sindh and Balochistan, containing essential directives.
The communication emphasizes that following the dissolution of the National Assembly, Sindh, and Balochistan Assemblies, the constitutional responsibility of organizing transparent and timely elections lies with the Election Commission.
The caretaker administrations are advised to create a conducive environment for the electoral process, ensuring impartiality among all political parties. It is imperative that these caretaker governments seek the Election Commission’s support to ensure transparent and unhindered elections, while actively preventing any disruptions.
The Secretary’s letter underscores that any appointments or transfers must be pre-approved by the Election Commission. Moreover, a prohibition on recruitment across federal, provincial, and local institutions should be adhered to.
The Election Commission has imposed a moratorium on development schemes by federal and provincial governments and has mandated the removal of political appointees from institutions.
Former prime ministers, chief ministers, cabinet members, advisors, and assembly members are promptly requested to vacate official residences and retrieve official vehicles from cabinet members.
The Secretary of the Election Commission emphasizes that federal and provincial supervisory authorities must conduct daily affairs in accordance with the law, with the option to uphold existing international and bilateral agreements.
Additionally, the Election Commission has solicited asset details from the caretaker Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and Cabinet members within a 3-day period.
