Quetta: The Chief Minister and the opposition leader in Balochistan have failed to reach a consensus on the selection of a caretaker chief minister.
The scheduled consultation period between Chief Minister Abdul Qudous Bizenjo and Opposition Leader Malik Sikandar, which was set to conclude by 12:00 on August 15, lapsed without a meeting taking place. Consequently, the decision regarding the caretaker Chief Minister will now be deferred to the Parliamentary Committee.
Sources indicate that the JUI (Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam) had put forth the names of Ali Mardan Domki and Usman Badini as potential candidates for the caretaker chief minister, along with other names proposed by the Chief Minister of Balochistan. However, no agreement was reached on the final candidate by late night.
The Parliamentary Committee is tasked with finalizing a selection for the caretaker chief minister within a three-day timeframe. Should an agreement fail to materialize, the responsibility of appointing the caretaker chief minister will be handed over to the election commission.
Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly, John Muhammad Jamali, has clarified that both the ruling party and the opposition will be requested to provide three names each for consideration in the formation of the parliamentary committee responsible for electing the caretaker chief minister. Subsequently, two names will be shortlisted from both sides for the caretaker chief minister position.
