The chairlift incident in the Bitgram area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has led to the arrest of both the owner, Ijaz, and operator, Gul Zareen. The Alai Police apprehended them and filed negligence charges against them.
The police are currently conducting a thorough investigation following the detention of the private chairlift’s owner. As a precautionary measure, the local district administration has sealed off the chairlift’s premises.
Tahir Ayub, the DIG of Hazara Division, has confirmed the sealing of the chairlift’s control room. The First Information Report (FIR) now includes five counts of negligence.
It’s noteworthy that the previous day, a chairlift in Bitgram had been suspended mid-air due to a rope malfunction. Eight individuals were trapped in the chairlift but were successfully rescued.
In a related development, responding to the Deputy Commissioner’s directives, over nine chairlifts in various locations in Balakot were also sealed. This action has resulted in the disconnection of numerous villages. The closure of the chairlift on Kinhar River at Kiwai has particularly affected the residents of Puror, including schoolchildren and teachers who cross the river to reach school. Protests have arisen in Parwar demanding the reinstatement of the chairlift.
Syed Munir Shah, a former Nazim, pointed out that the chairlift on Kunhar River at Parur stands at an impressive height of 3,000 feet and spans a length of 800 feet.
