A Saudi Arabian military aircraft crashed while conducting a routine training mission in Riyadh. Saudi media reports indicate that the incident occurred close to King Abdulaziz Airbase. Brigadier General Turki al-Maliki, the spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Defense, confirmed that the crash involved a “Tornado” fighter jet from the Saudi Air Force. The exact cause of the crash remains unknown at this time.
Local sources report that the plane went down near a residential area, fortunately causing no casualties. The pilots onboard the aircraft were able to eject and land safely using parachutes.
Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki stated that an investigation committee has been established to determine the factors leading to the accident.
It’s important to note that while Saudi Arabian airports and flights have previously been targeted by Houthi rebels due to the ongoing conflict in Yemen, relative peace has been observed since the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
