In the midst of a murder case hearing, Justice Mazahar Ali Naqvi expressed concern over the police’s lackluster performance and subpar investigative efforts, asserting that this negligence was causing significant issues.
The case revolved around the murder of an individual named Akbar and was being deliberated in Sheikhupura. A two-member Supreme Court bench, comprising Justice Mazahar Ali Naqvi and Justice Jamal Mandukhel, presided over the proceedings. The court, during the session, decided to reserve its verdict on the bail application submitted by the accused, Sanul Yusuf.
Justice Mazahar Ali Naqvi, during the hearing, rebuked the Regional Police Officer (RPO) and District Police Officer (DPO) of Sheikhupura for their inadequate investigation, emphasizing that this substandard police work was causing significant issues for the public. He pointed out that the police had a responsibility to conduct investigations in accordance with the law, rather than arbitrarily. Stressing the gravity of the matter, he highlighted that this case involved a loss of life due to murder.
In response, RPO Babar Sarfraz informed the court that the investigating officer had been issued a show-cause notice regarding the flawed investigation. Justice Jamal Mandukhel questioned how the investigating officer could have exonerated the accused based solely on the statement provided by the accused. Justice Mazahar Ali Naqvi, while addressing the investigating officer Arif, inquired about the request under which the accused had been declared innocent. The investigating officer explained that he had prepared the report at the request of DSP Ferozewala Mian Shafqat.
It’s worth noting that Sanul Yusuf, the accused in this case, stands accused of killing Akbar in June 2022 as a result of a dispute over land.
