In Islamabad, the High Court has temporarily halted the written arrest order for 3MPO Parvez Elahi and has ordered his release.
The court has also issued a notice to various parties, including the DC Islamabad, with a deadline of Tuesday to submit their responses before the next hearing. Parvez Elahi has been instructed to appear before the court at the upcoming hearing.
Furthermore, the Islamabad High Court has directed Parvez Elahi not to make any statements until the next hearing. The court pointed out that, according to the petitioner’s attorney, there is no FIR filed against Parvez Elahi in Islamabad.
Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri of the Islamabad High Court presided over the request made by Chaudhry Parvez Elahi to invalidate the MPO order. Parvez Elahi’s lawyer argued that it’s unreasonable to expect the Chief Minister to maintain peace while being in jail for three months. In response, Parvez Elahi’s counsel read out the 3 MPO order as per the court’s instructions.
The attorney representing the former Chief Minister of Punjab asserted that Parvez Elahi has refrained from making any statements for four months, and no case has been registered against him in Islamabad. Moreover, he has been cleared of charges in an anti-corruption case. The arrest has been deemed unlawful, as he was taken into custody by Lahore Police immediately after being released by the Lahore High Court.
The court inquired whether any disturbances or processions had taken place in Islamabad. The lawyer replied that no rallies, processions, or disturbances had occurred, and there are contempt of court proceedings against the DC Islamabad for issuing a similar order against Shehryar Afridi.
