Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian captain and commentator, along with Harbhajan Singh, criticized the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for hosting matches in Colombo instead of Hambantota. Gavaskar expressed the need to uncover the real reasons behind this decision, despite the weather forecast indicating rain. He emphasized the importance of understanding why the matches were held in Colombo.
Gavaskar also urged players to recognize that training for a couple of days with limited resources shouldn’t significantly impact their preparations, considering they dedicate an entire month to training.
In contrast, Harbhajan Singh found the excuse of inadequate training facilities for the match to be illogical. He pointed out that during his playing days, players didn’t have a say in selecting venues; that was the responsibility of the officials.
Harbhajan questioned why matches weren’t being conducted at the fully-equipped international stadium in Dambulla. He humorously remarked that it seemed like the teams were heading for a swimming competition in Colombo due to the rain, emphasizing the need to explore alternative venues like Dambulla.
