In a recent interview with India Today, former Indian cricket team captain and commentator Sunil Gavaskar acknowledged that the Pakistani cricket team boasts the most formidable “new ball attack” in the world of cricket.
Gavaskar pointed out that while there is fierce competition between Pakistan and Australia in terms of their fast bowling units, Pakistan’s current crop of fast bowlers is emerging as the most lethal in the contemporary cricket landscape.
He emphasized that both Pakistan and Australia have top-class pacers who possess the ability to swing and seam the ball effectively, all while maintaining a good pace. Gavaskar highlighted that facing these bowlers in major cricket events will be a significant challenge for any batsman.
During the ongoing Asia Cup, Pakistan’s trio of pacers has already secured an impressive tally of 23 wickets in just three matches, showcasing their potential ahead of the upcoming World Cup in India.
Moreover, Gavaskar drew a comparison between the current Pakistani bowling lineup and legendary figures like Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, expressing his admiration for their skill and talent.
In the Asia Cup, Pakistan’s fast bowlers managed to disrupt the top-order batting of their arch-rivals, India, in a group match. However, unfortunately, the match was eventually abandoned due to rain, resulting in both teams receiving one point each.
