The Election Commission of Pakistan, following the directives of the Supreme Court, has unveiled the timeline for the upcoming general elections set to take place nationwide on February 8.
Post the Supreme Court’s ruling, a meeting chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner was convened at the Election Commission of Pakistan. During this session, members discussed the scenario post-court decision and subsequently endorsed the 2024 election schedule.
According to this schedule, prospective candidates can file their nomination papers from December 20 to 22. The list of candidates will be disclosed on December 23, with scrutiny of nomination papers scheduled between December 24 and 30.
The final list of candidates is slated for publication on January 12, 2024, followed by the allocation of election symbols to candidates on January 13. The Appellate Tribunal is set to resolve appeals by January 10.
The general elections are scheduled for Thursday, February 8, 2024, and this schedule applies to both specific and provincial seats across the four provinces.
Additionally, the Election Commission of Pakistan has released the training itinerary for returning officers post the Supreme Court’s decision. Training sessions for returning officers are scheduled for December 17 and 18, while district returning officers will undergo training on December 19, 2023.
