The Election Commission is deliberating on a petition seeking to invalidate the PTI’s intra-party elections. During the hearing, PTI’s lawyer, Ali Zafar, argued for the dismissal of the petitions, emphasizing that the party holds the authority, as per its constitution, to conduct elections. He highlighted that non-members lack the standing to challenge the party’s decision, underscoring the critical implications tied to failing to recognize the election’s validity, which could impact the party’s registration.
A member of the Election Commission from KP reiterated that conducting intra-party elections aligns with constitutional provisions and legal guidelines.
The petitioner, represented by Akbar S. Babar’s counsel, urged for a re-conduction of the intra-party elections under the Election Commission’s supervision. They emphasized that the PTI’s lawyer needs to specify the constitutional procedure for conducting these elections.
Another petitioner’s representative also sought the annulment and rerun of the intra-party elections.
Following the completion of the hearing on the PTI intra-party case, the Election Commission has reserved its decision for now.
