The cost of electricity is poised to rise once more, potentially adding an extra burden of Rs 36 billion on consumers.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed a request with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority seeking an increase in electricity rates by Rs 4.66 per unit. This application is scheduled for review by Nepra tomorrow.
This proposed increase of Rs 4.66 per unit is attributed to November’s fuel price adjustments and outstanding dues. If approved, it could lead to an additional cost exceeding Rs 36 billion for electricity consumers.
According to CPPA’s request for the price hike, November saw a distribution in electricity generation: 36.5% from hydroelectric sources, over 20% from nuclear power, 13% from local coal, more than 6% from imported coal, 10.6% from LNG, and 9.2% from domestic gas.
