Instead, Qureshi was sent to Adiala Jail on judicial remand in 12 cases following a hearing where arguments were heard, and the court had initially reserved its judgment.
During the hearing related to the GHQ attack case, Duty Magistrate Syed Jahangir Ali presided. The prosecution requested a 30-day physical remand for Qureshi. At the start of the hearing, Qureshi showed his handcuffs to the judge.
Qureshi informed the court that he was in Rawalpindi to care for his ill wife admitted at Sir Agha Khan Hospital, stating this could be verified through the hospital records and Pemra records.
He mentioned that despite three judges from the apex court ordering his release on bail, he was arrested under MPO 3, and later the order for his arrest was withdrawn, citing flaws.
Expressing emotional distress in court, Qureshi, with tears in his eyes, mentioned his five-time tenure as a member of the National Assembly. He alleged mistreatment during arrest, claiming physical assault by the SHO and being denied medical attention despite chest pain.
Qureshi asserted his global representation of Pakistan and advocacy on international platforms but lamented his current treatment, questioning the justice in his prolonged incarceration and alleged torture.
At his request, the court ordered the removal of Qureshi’s handcuffs and subsequently reserved judgment on the physical remand request.
Previously, Qureshi was brought to the judicial complex in an armored vehicle with handcuffs for a court appearance in the May 9 vandalism case. The police had heightened security measures for his appearance.
The former foreign minister was arrested outside Adiala Jail after being granted bail by the Supreme Court in a cipher case. His arrest was ordered by the Rawalpindi deputy commissioner under MPO 3, related to a case registered against him for the May 9 carnage. Qureshi appeared before Duty Magistrate Syed Jahangir Ali, where police sought his physical remand.
