In a recent High Court hearing, Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb raised concerns about the caretaker government’s intentions regarding the upcoming elections. The hearing revolved around a request for a meeting between PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan and Founder Imran Khan.
The court directed that a supervised meeting between the PTI founder and chairman take place at Adiala Jail. Emphasizing the fundamental right to election consultation, the court criticized the caretaker government for potentially compromising its neutrality. Allowing the opposition to interfere in consultations between past and present PTI chairpersons raised doubts about the caretaker government’s impartiality.
During the session, the Additional Attorney General and the Superintendent of Adiala Jail appeared before the court. When a lawyer, Shoaib Shaheen, stressed the need for consultation regarding the distribution of 700 PTI tickets, the court expressed dismay at the opposition from the Additional Attorney General and Advocate General, asking if the Supreme Court’s directive wasn’t sufficient.
Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb highlighted that these offices represent the caretaker government and should remain impartial. He criticized the system supervised by the caretaker government, noting that even election consultations were being hindered. This led to the question: does the caretaker government aim to disrupt the elections?
Ultimately, the petition was resolved, permitting the consultation to proceed.
