In a recent development, the Islamabad High Court addressed a case involving the alleged sale of cemetery land by the Capital Development Authority (CDA). It came to light that despite winning the auction, the citizen in question had not received an alternative plot even a decade after the Survey Department’s report.
Consequently, the court issued a contempt of court notice to Chairman CDA Anwarul Haque, Member State CDA Tariq Salam Marwat, and Director Tabinda Tariq. Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri of the Islamabad High Court summoned these CDA officers for a hearing on January 25, following the citizen’s request.
During the proceedings, the court emphasized that the individual who acquired the plot from the CDA had been striving for ten years to relocate it from the cemetery. CDA officers asserted their commitment to providing alternative plots to citizens, but the court questioned why they had not been held accountable for contempt of court, considering the failure to adhere to court orders.
