Rawalpindi: Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the leader of the Muslim League (N), expressed his disapproval of the current election proceedings, emphasizing that the country cannot be effectively governed through such processes. Disagreeing with the current stance of the Muslim League-N, he visited the anti-corruption office with his coordinator, addressing the media to discuss the situation. Abbasi mentioned that the summons issued to Hafiz Usman, seeking a PML ticket, lacked clarity, adding that individuals are frequently called by various authorities like the police, NAB, or anti-corruption before elections.
Highlighting their lack of affiliation with the Punjab government, he drew parallels with similar incidents during the tenure of the former Chairman PTI. Abbasi expressed concern over the series of summons, asserting that even those not participating in the election were facing harassment. He questioned the fairness of the election process, stating that treating non-contesting representatives this way raises concerns about the treatment of actual election contenders. He stressed that the country’s governance cannot rely on external support and urged for a non-controversial and transparent election process to ensure the smooth functioning of the nation.
Abbasi clarified that despite his 35-year association with PML-N, he disagreed with its current political stance. He disclosed that he neither applied for nor contested any election against PML-N, expressing surprise at not being contacted by Nawaz Sharif upon his return home.
