In New Delhi, a remarkable event occurred when a group of eleven Khakrub women from Kerala, India, collectively purchased a lottery ticket for 25.25 rupees. Their determination was so strong that one of the women even borrowed money from her partner to contribute to the ticket purchase.
Their luck took an extraordinary turn, as they ended up winning a staggering prize of Rs 10 crore, equivalent to approximately 1.2 million US dollars. This group of women are scavengers, earning their livelihood by collecting garbage from households and selling it, making around 250 rupees per day.
After tax deductions, each woman is expected to receive 63 lakhs as her share of the prize money. Despite becoming instant millionaires, these inspiring women chose to continue their regular work on the second day after the win. They expressed their commitment to not giving up their hard-earned money from their jobs, but instead plan to utilize the lottery prize to repay debts, secure their children’s education, and build their dream homes.
