Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has voiced his concerns regarding interference in the work of Towns Chairman and the limitations faced by elected officials in Karachi.

He filed a constitutional petition in the Sindh High Court after the January 15 local elections were held in Karachi. Despite the elected officials taking oaths on June 19, their powers have not been fully transferred, and they are unable to carry out their duties without the approval of the DC (Deputy Commissioner). Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman demanded an immediate completion of the transition process to ensure the smooth functioning of elected representatives and eliminate interference in their responsibilities.

He also criticized the Sindh government for its lack of awareness about Karachi’s problems and cited the incident in Nawabshah as an example of a poorly managed rescue system. Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman accused the current government of assuming power in an illegitimate manner and called for the prompt transfer of powers to duly elected officials.

Furthermore, a petition was filed in the Sindh High Court by 9 towns chairman, including Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman and Saifuddin Advocate, against the extension of the tenure of transit officers in local bodies. The petition argued that the appointment of these officers, which led to the suspension of local bodies, was in violation of the Constitution of Pakistan and the Local Government Act, 2013. The petition seeks to annul this action and involves Chief Secretary Sindh and Secretary Local Government as parties.
