The United States has urged Israel to ensure the safety of civilians in Gaza. US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin emphasized that safeguarding civilian lives in Gaza is both a moral obligation and a strategic imperative.
Addressing media representatives in California, the Secretary of Defense stated that the US would continue to exert pressure on Israel to protect civilians and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid. He emphasized that prioritizing civilian safety is not only crucial but also the most effective strategy.
Austin underscored that in conflicts of this nature, the well-being of civilian populations holds immense significance. He highlighted that leaving civilians vulnerable to the adversary can turn potential victories into defeats.
These remarks from the US Secretary of Defense follow Israel’s resumption of heavy bombing in Gaza, citing Hamas violations of the ceasefire. More than 700 Palestinians were reported killed in a single day.
The Palestinian News Agency “Wafa” documented over 16,000 Palestinian casualties in the ongoing conflict, including 1,500 children and 4,500 women.
