In the Senate Secretariat of Islamabad, a new resolution has been presented, seeking the postponement of the 2024 general elections. Senator Hilal-ur-Rehman submitted the resolution, expressing concerns about security issues in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The senator highlighted the fear among candidates regarding potential terrorist attacks during the election campaign in the region.
The resolution emphasizes the perceived sense of deprivation among voters and candidates in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Senator Hilal-ur-Rehman suggests that the current election date in the province is inconvenient, proposing a delay in the general elections from the scheduled date of February 8. The senator points out that severe cold and snowfall in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are creating challenges, hindering citizens from voting in a secure environment and making it difficult for candidates to conduct effective election campaigns.
Hilal-ur-Rehman, the independent senator from FATA who submitted the resolution, highlights the need for a more suitable date for the general elections. This marks the third resolution related to elections submitted to the Senate Secretariat, with two resolutions advocating for postponement and one from Jamaat-e-Islami supporting holding the elections on time.
