The court dismissed the plea for an extended physical remand of former PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry on corruption charges.
Additional Sessions Judge Sohail Anjum announced the decision, denying the request to further detain Fawad Chaudhry. The court rejected the anti-corruption department’s bid to send him back to jail. Judge Anjum stated that the initial two-day remand sufficed, affirming the earlier decision made by the civil judge.
The Anti-Corruption Department had petitioned against the decision to place Fawad Chaudhry in judicial custody, arguing that he should be in physical remand instead. They aimed to recover 3.5 million rupees allegedly received from a private housing society. The Additional Sessions Judge, after considering the arguments presented by the anti-corruption legal team, held the hearing and reserved the verdict.
During the court appearance, Fawad Chaudhry addressed the situation, expressing doubt about upcoming elections. He reiterated his intention to participate if they proceed, highlighting various cases against him, including allegations of bribery for carriages installation and involvement in a urea sack fertilizer case. Chaudhry emphasized that these accusations seemed intended to impede his electoral prospects, asserting his determination to conduct a robust campaign if elections are confirmed.
