The recent development in Lahore marks a historic moment in Pakistan as artificial rain was successfully initiated to combat the persistent issue of smog, stated by the interim Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi. The project, conducted in collaboration with foreign experts, aimed to alleviate the city’s smoggy atmosphere.
During a press briefing, Naqvi highlighted the successful testing of artificial rain, a pioneering event in Pakistan’s history. Flares were launched in specific areas, including Shahdara and Murid K, resulting in rain across approximately ten locations in Lahore.
Acknowledging the instrumental support from the UAE government, Naqvi expressed gratitude for their assistance in facilitating the artificial rain initiative. A specialized UAE team, along with two AE ships, arrived in Lahore after managing all necessary arrangements.
The interim Chief Minister of Punjab expressed optimism regarding the anticipated positive impact on Lahore’s air quality index. While acknowledging that the effectiveness of artificial rain remains to be seen, he emphasized the importance of exploring both short-term and long-term solutions. Notably, despite the recent high air quality index in Lahore, this innovative technology has been implemented in countries like the United Arab Emirates and the United States, indicating its global usage.
