New York: A new study has found that specialized artificial intelligence robots designed to alleviate loneliness may one day be helpful for isolated individuals.
According to global media reports, scientists from Cornell, Duke University and New Zealand’s University of Auckland. have published their findings in the journal Science Robotics.
Researchers found that the number of Americans without a close friend has quadrupled since 1990. All the evidence points to feelings of loneliness far away, said Murali Duriswamy, a professor of psychiatry and geriatrics at Duke University.
A true friend is the best solution. But until society prioritizes social connections and care for the elderly, robots are a solution for millions of lonely people who have no other solution.
