As per the court’s directive, IG Islamabad paid the fine to Shireen Mazari.

In Islamabad, the Inspector General (IG) paid a fine to Shireen Mazari as per the High Court’s directive. The matter pertained to Shireen Mazari’s inclusion in the Exit Control List (ECL), and it was presided over by Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri of the Islamabad High Court.

During the proceedings, Justice Jahangiri questioned why no arrest had been made in connection with the 2014 cases and sought clarification on their current status, considering that a decade had passed. Furthermore, the court inquired whether the federal government’s permission had been obtained to place Shireen Mazari’s name on the passport control list.

The court underscored that the authority to add names to the passport control list rested with the federal government. Officials clarified that names were added only upon request from the investigating agency. The court emphasized that the federal government granted approval, while the list itself was prepared by the Ministry of Home Affairs. It stressed that the federal government could not delegate its authority in this regard. The court highlighted that even in the case of the ECL, approval was granted by the federal government, and the Ministry of Interior subsequently forwarded the names to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Regarding a 2014 case at the police station secretariat, the court questioned why Shireen Mazari had not been arrested at that time. The IG Islamabad was ordered to pay a fine of 25,000 rupees, and the court warned that failure to do so would result in contempt of court proceedings. The IG Islamabad paid the fine to Shireen Mazari in the courtroom. It’s worth noting that the court imposed the fine on the IG Islamabad for failing to provide a response. In response, Shireen Mazari pledged to donate the 25,000 rupees to Shaukat Khanum.

Subsequently, the Islamabad High Court requested records of the cases related to Shireen Mazari and directed that these records be submitted by September 19. The court also postponed the hearing of the case until that date.
