Asif Ali Zardari, the Co-Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party and former President, shared thoughts during a meeting in Lahore with the party’s Punjab leadership about the upcoming elections.
He remarked that Nawaz Sharif seems to have gained popularity following Imran Khan, likening it to becoming a ‘darling.’ Zardari emphasized the importance of connecting with the electorate, stating that while attention might be directed toward others, the focus should be on winning people’s hearts rather than relying on special treatment or preferences.
In preparations for the general elections, Zardari stressed the need for active participation, fielding strong candidates across Lahore and Punjab to secure victory and potentially position Bilawal Bhutto as Prime Minister. The party leadership pledged full support to candidates, with plans for Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to address gatherings in nine divisions of Punjab. Additionally, former Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf was designated to interview candidates seeking party tickets for the elections, alongside provincial and district office bearers.
Raja Pervez Ashraf is set to arrive in Lahore as per the party’s directives. During the meeting, Aslam Gul, President of PPP Lahore, provided updates on potential candidates, while Rana Farooq Saeed, Acting President of PPP Central Punjab, briefed on the candidates’ standing in various districts. Shamina Khalid Gharki, President of PPP Punjab, also shared the latest developments, including the scenario in Lahore within her national constituency.
