Bashir Memon is new PML-N head in Sindh

On Tuesday, the PML-N announced the appointment of Bashir Memon, a recent addition to the party, as the President of its Sindh chapter.

This decision was made to strengthen the party’s presence in the province, both in rural and urban areas, in line with Nawaz Sharif’s vision for a robust organization.

Simultaneously, a party notification stated that Shah Muhammad Shah, the current provincial party head, will now serve as the Vice President.

This development coincided with a visit by an MQM-P delegation led by its convenor Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, along with Dr. Farooq Sattar and Mustafa Kamal, to Lahore for consultations with Nawaz Sharif and other top PML-N leaders.

Sources indicate that the PML-N has proposed a seat adjustment arrangement with the MQM-P for the upcoming general elections, both at the national and provincial assembly levels. Additionally, the party is exploring electoral cooperation with JUI-F and GDA.

The appointment of Bashir Memon reflects the party’s intent to establish provincial leadership that operates independently of Lahore’s influence, aiming to address the criticism of central leaders’ persistent interference in Sindh.

One of the key factors behind Bashir Memon’s rapid ascent within the PML-N is his strong belief in the importance of forming closer electoral alliances with other parties to effectively enter provincial politics. Shortly after joining the party in September, he became the first PML-N leader to publicly advocate for an electoral alliance with the MQM-P and JUI-F in Sindh, a move that appears to be taking shape within a month.

Memon gained prominence by disclosing that, during the PTI’s tenure, the then Prime Minister had personally directed the filing of fabricated cases against Maryam Nawaz and Khawaja Asif, despite the relentless targeting of PML-N leaders and workers. He, however, refused to comply with these directives.
