During the proceedings related to the defamation case against Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry at the Election Commission, a commission member from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) emphasized the significance of people being aware of the founder of PTI. The four-member commission, chaired by Nisar Durrani from Sindh, heard the contempt case, with lawyers Shoaib Shaheen and Faisal Chaudhry representing the involved parties.
Shoaib Shaheen, presenting his stance, requested an adjournment of the hearing, citing the need to record statements and evidence from witnesses. He proposed scheduling the hearing after February 8, considering the commission’s preoccupation with upcoming elections. Responding to concerns about potential bias, the KP commission member clarified that they are impartial.
Shaheen mentioned the imposition of Section 144 in various areas, pointing out that they intend to hold a rally in Dahey and expressed concerns about the perception of the commission being biased against their party. The KP commission member commented that elections could be contested without a symbol like a bat, which had been taken away from Tehreek-e-Insaaf. Shaheen highlighted the challenge of conveying this to the public, to which the KP commission member remarked that people are well aware of the PTI founder, as evidenced by his photos on every campaign poster.
Subsequently, the Election Commission decided to postpone the contempt case hearing against PTI’s founder until February 20.
Simultaneously, a four-member commission, led by Nisar Durrani, heard the contempt case against Fawad Chaudhry. Faisal Chaudhry, representing Fawad, requested a postponement, stating that they needed more time to submit a response to the show cause notice. Commission member Ikramullah Khan noted the absence of Fawad Chaudhry’s response to the notice and granted an extension until February 21 for the submission.
The commission accepted the adjournment request and rescheduled the contempt case hearing against Fawad Chaudhry for February 21.
