Chairman of the PPP, Bilawal Bhutto, remarked that a significant portion of the Charter of Democracy has been enacted, and now there is a pressing need for reforms within the judiciary.
Across the nation, the 45th anniversary of the esteemed founder of the People’s Party, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, was commemorated with reverence and fervor.
Ceremonies were conducted in various cities, including Quran recitations held at Garhi Khudabakhsh for Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s remembrance. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari participated in an iftar and dinner gathering at No Dero, attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, MPA Faryal Talpur, Provincial Minister Nasir Shah, Jameel Soomro, and others.
Addressing party workers during Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s anniversary, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto expressed disappointment over the delayed detailed decision regarding Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s reference from the Supreme Court, asserting that the lack of timely justice tarnishes the judiciary’s credibility. He emphasized the need for judicial reforms at all levels, pledging to advocate for these reforms within the Assembly.
Highlighting the Charter of Democracy’s achievements, Bilawal noted the implementation of numerous points but stressed the unresolved issue of judicial reforms. Prior to the anniversary ceremony, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, accompanied by Sindh Chief Minister, paid respects at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto Mazar, offering prayers at the shrines of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and other martyrs.
Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari condemned Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s judicial execution as a nefarious plot against Pakistan’s independence and sovereignty. He affirmed that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s legacy, carried forward by Benazir Bhutto, now rests with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
During the anniversary event in Peshawar, PPP central leader Qamar Zaman Kaira emphasized PPP’s historical role in steering the country out of crises, suggesting that had the governments of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto completed their terms, Pakistan’s trajectory would have been different today.
Other party figures, including Sherry Rahman and People’s Party Sindh President Nisar Khoro, condemned Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s judicial execution as not only an attack on the PPP but also on the nation’s integrity, marking it as a dark episode in Pakistan’s history.
