Black Day in Occupied Kashmir on India’s Independence Day

black day

Srinagar is currently witnessing a “Black Day” observance in conjunction with India’s Independence Day, as reported by Kashmir media. The occupied region is experiencing a complete shutdown in response to the call by Hurriyat leadership. This shutdown has led to the closure of educational institutions, shops, and businesses, while transportation remains halted. The local population has displayed black flags on their residences to symbolize opposition to Indian oppression and encroachment.

To curb potential protests, additional Indian military personnel have been deployed in the occupied area. Major roadways have been sealed off with barbed wire, and mobile and internet services have been suspended in various locations. A number of young individuals have been taken into custody.

Prominent figures such as Yasin Malik and Asia Andrabi, who have been vocal advocates for Kashmir’s freedom, have endured severe mistreatment during their incarceration in Indian prisons for several years. The struggle for liberation from Indian occupation has come at a heavy cost, with over 100,000 Kashmiris sacrificing their lives in pursuit of this goal.
