International Monitoring Fund (IMF) representative in Pakistan, Esther Preez, says that the opportunity to widen the tax net has been missed in the budget proposals.
The IMF said resources for the Benazir Income Support Program were reduced, while the new tax amnesty scheme was deemed inconsistent with the terms of the loan program.
Ester Price says the new amnesty sets a harmful precedent, saying the terms of the amnesty program in tax spending are contrary to the governing agenda.
He emphasized on measures to reduce financial pressure on the energy sector and offered to work with the government before passing the budget.
