During a contempt of court hearing in Lahore, the High Court made remarks regarding the calling of the IG Islamabad, emphasizing the importance of maintaining one’s honor.
The hearing pertained to a petition filed by Qaisra Elahi, concerning the failure to deliver former Chief Minister Punjab Pervaiz Elahi to his home. Present at the hearing were the DIG Investigation and DIG Operations, Justice Mirza Waqas Rauf.
During the proceedings, the police officers submitted their responses to the court, with Pervaiz Elahi’s lawyer requesting time to review the reply. However, the IG Islamabad did not appear in court. The public prosecutor informed the court that SP Imran Aslam had investigated the matter and that Islamabad police had lawfully arrested Pervaiz Elahi.
After a brief break, the IG Islamabad Police remained absent, and no reply was filed. However, the DIG Operations, DIG Investigation, and SSP Operations were present as per the court’s order, submitting their responses to the show cause notice. The court had previously ordered an inquiry by IG Punjab, whose report affirmed that Pervaiz Elahi had been arrested in accordance with the law and that the police had fully complied with the Lahore High Court’s order.
Pervaiz Elahi’s lawyer, Asif Cheema, argued for time to review the report and the responses filed by the police officers. The Lahore High Court had granted bail to Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in all cases, leading to his release from NAB custody. The court summoned the DIG Operation and DIG Investigation and issued a written order.
The lawyer contended that the court had instructed the police officers to ensure Pervaiz Elahi’s safe return home, but they failed to do so. Consequently, the lawyer requested the court to take contempt of court action against the DIG Investigation and DIG Operation.
In response, the court remarked that it would be inappropriate to call the IG Islamabad in any other manner, stressing the need for individuals to maintain their honor. The next hearing for the case was adjourned until September 18th.
